Pain Management at Stone Ridge Veterinary Hospital
No one wants to see their pet hurting, which is why managing pain and discomfort is one of our main goals at Stone Ridge Veterinary Hospital. Our team will design a pain management plan tailored to your pet’s needs for all surgical procedures and the treatment of chronic conditions.
Signs of Pain
Animals instinctively hide the pain, so it’s good to know what to look for if your pet requires help. Common symptoms include:
- Excessive licking or biting
- Loss of appetite
- Reluctance to move or jump
- Howling, whining, or other abnormal vocal cues
Changes in behavior, such as growling or overt aggression, may also be indicators of pain. If your pet displays any of these signs or has experienced a recent trauma, please contact us immediately for an examination.
Dental Procedures and Pain Control
While dental cleanings are generally painless and fairly easy, other procedures (such as extractions) are potentially painful. In such cases, we control pain through prevention rather than treatment. Local anesthetic injections (nerve blocks) are used to keep your pet from ever experiencing pain. If we anticipate discomfort at home, we may also prescribe various analgesic medications for your pet.
Medications from our Pharmacy
Our on-site pharmacy stocks various pet pharmaceuticals, and our staff is happy to discuss appropriate dosage and administration techniques. Stone Ridge Veterinary Hospital also provides online prescription refills for your convenience.
